Kem PLKN Kampong Hijrah Penor. A year on

Exactly a year ago, 366 days ago, roughly few hours back I was there, there at a small town namely Kampong Hijrah, Penor, Kuantan, Pahang. To give a full name, Its Kem PLKN Kampong Hijrah, Penor, Kuantan. Yes is was the first day of the beginning of the 80++ days National Sevice training stint for me.

The day I move

The first day were virtually unknown to me, as I have no one to talk to and no offense to some there, particularly the bumis, they really look suspicious in every sense. All I can do is just have a talk or two with the first person I know there, and ironically a Malay, Fajar.

The first few days gone by really slowly. I barely remember what happened except for The management of the camp, sorting out of the dorm members and also the balding process. I remember myself being reluctant to shave my head and was practically being forced to. That's when I know some of my good friends, Jacky, Elephant, Weng Yu, Kah Choon, Wai Hong, Jacky and Amirul.

Elephant, Cikgu Mus, Ah Hong and Me.
Shen Yeong I and Jacky
Kevin, Jacky and I

A1!

After all this, there was his election for the camp's leaders. I was selected the head for the boys, namely the wira. We went through some kind of screening with our ability to shout out commands, to march or maybe there's something more to it, as I initially have no intention of getting any post out of it, in other sense getting myself less trobule. But who on earth would know that the post I got is such a memorable one.

So the 19th Jan was the position award day, which was also the open day. The award was witness by every trainee in the camp and oso some parents who came by to visit their love ones.

My post award day.

Too many things happened and I can't list it all out here. Times flies then came the Chinese New Year break for 5 days. I went back to KL then back to Penor again. Had activities like the shooting range with the M-16, the explorace where my kompany, Alpha turn out to be the champions led by me, the Wirajaya and also numerous fashion shows I was involved in.

Lets the pics tel the story.

9 days after NS

Hmm its been 9 days since I came back from the National Service programme. 9 days and I'm still missing everyone from Penor. Its been a 2 months+ dream I'd never wished for..

And the past 9 days I've been everywhere in KL, from Cheras to Pudu to Setapak to Ampang to Pandan Indah to Titiwangsa to everywhere. There've not been a day where I am free, sitting at home. Perhaps this is a good way for me to ease the pressure I have now, choosing the pathway for my future.

~~Memories~~

How good if I am able to turn back time..

I am back from National Service! Kem PLKN Kampong Hijrah, Penor, Kuantan!

Hey everybody I am back, 'graduating' from my National Service Program! National Service will be a great memory to me, no matter good or bad. The people I know there is amazing and gosh, I love them!

Being involved in National Service is something to be sad about initially, but after months there, I realize that NS is very fun and good indeed. Words alone cant describe it. Many new friends, new experience, new skills and new stuff i gained over there in Kem PLKN Kampong Hijrah, Penor, Kuantan. Never regret going there, never.

Alpha, my beloved company of red are the champions among the other 3 company! The blueish Bravo, yellowish Charlie and greenish Delta. The total of 385 trainee fighting each other out for the final victory is something to be valued of. I'll never forget the 49 wira and 46 wirawati of Perajurit Alpha!

Being Sergeant of the camp is something which I have been hoping and craving for even before settling foot into the camp. In the end, I got the 3 balaks, and the final award everyone was hoping for was landed onto my hand of the faithful morning of 10th March 2008, I was named as the Best Trainee of Kem PLKN Kg. Hijrah, Penor. Tears cant stop falling the moment after I get the award. Flashing back, it was just like a minute ago. Making the Chinese proud is the best achievement I had there.

After the Chinese New year break, we undergone training for Colt M16, Flying Fox, Repelling, Kayak and numerous class activities. For the flying fox, I gained many personal experience as ow to be responsible of people's life. As I was honoured the responsibility to handle the rope used for this activity, holding on to some one's life isn't a light weight duty. From there, I really really learned a lot. Credits to Cikgu Mustapha, of of my trainer which I always appraise of, the best trainer I ever had and definitely the best trainer in Penor!

On my personal notes, I now know what it is to be living with people of different culture, society, background, teachings, religion, race and behaviour. the other 24 dormates of mine all came from different states and I respect everyone of them. Anam, Zuar, Wok, Akie, Afiq, Epul, Elephant, Weng, Jacky, Amirul, Emy, Kevin, Yu, Kae-U, Khuzaifah, Syamsul, Hafizz (G), Ewan, Shak, King, Ramlan, Fajar, Kah Choon and Wan. I'll never be able to forget them.

311 gang. The gang of Chinese wira of the same 'channel' and 'frequency'. I'm missing them already. Sau Shiunn, Shao Lin, Billy, Ah Yew, Pang, Allan, Elephant, Jacky, Kah Choon, Weng, Guang Guang, Ma Yi, Harry Potter, Wei Kang and the Crazy girls. Loo Shen Yeong is another person I'll never forget.

On 1st March 2008, I had a Birthday celebration of my life. I'll never forget it. The 311 members bought everything they could in the camp, such as 'burger double special', lots of nuggets and lots of junk food. But the high point isn't here. It is at the time when I was chased by all of them trying to get me and kiss me in my cheeks with chili sauce all over their lips. It was disgusting but, I love the way they did it =)

Kem PLKN Kampong Hijrah Penor, I'll never forget you. And the trainee there, by fate, we shall meet again!!

Adioz!

Adioz friends! I'll be back to my NS camp to continue my training programe on tomorrow until 11th March 08. But somehow I am looking forward to it. Perhaps I'm missing the people there? Or the activity I love doing? Hmm God knows.

Earlier in the day went to Lay Kuan's house to bai nin. Black Jack as usual. She was saying that she would cook for us but end up in disappointment. Well yeah cook it is but steamboat =.='' thats my reaction at that moment. After that went to Wing Luo's house and again, gamble. Black Jack again and manage to win some there.

Gotta pack now. Adioz friends!

Home Sweet Home

~Home Sweet Home~ well that is what I call my home. After away from my home for more than a month, it feels so good to be back home, feeling the great joy of Chinese New Year at he same time. Yay its Chinese New Year!

Rounding off the first month of NS, I can say it is not as boring as it would be as I first thought. My first impression on my camp site, Kg. Hijrah, Penor isn't good though. The reason why is because the camp site wasn't completely built and most of the physical activities couldn't be carried out in a period of time. The male trainees were given the tag as 'Wira' and the female trainees as "Wirawati'.

To my dorm, the place where I spent most of my time outside the activities. My dorm, A1, which stand for Alpha-1 has 25 person and my bed numebr is A1-21. Lucky number 21 huh? There are 5 chinese, 1 Indian and a bumiputera from Kuala Lipis. His name is Ramlan A/L Machon, someone unique and have a lot of attention on him on everything he does. The only Indian, Kevin is also someone famous for his hip hop outlook and also his beatbox ability. Well the rest of them are Malay and nothing much specifically bout them. Not to forget, the rank holder in the room, more known as Sergeant by most of the trainees. the 3 balak on the shoulder was given to Choo Wai Kien.

On the food, 6 meals daily. GREAT. 6 MEALS. Meals on 0730, 1030, 1230, 1630, 1830, 2230. Basically, it consist of 3 heavy course, and 3 light tea-break. The drinks they serve is sooooo sweet. Drinking a glass daily would end up in severe diabetes. The food.. hmm malay style of cooking? Luckily enough I'm used to such food before I'm off to NS.

Waking up not later than 6am everyday is torturing providing that everynight we can only sleep on 11.00 or later. Not getting enough sleep will make me fall asleep in the class! The character building class is sometimes boring enough to dooze you off even when you had enough sleep!

Every Sunday the Buddhist and the Christians would be off to the nearest town, Kuantan. I myself as a Buddhist were driven to the Pahang Buddhist Association which is located in Kuantan, off a hill. The temple have some nice scenary and I hope the photos will be sent to me soon. Trainees from the neighbouring camp, Gambang, Pekan and Chini were there too on every Sunday.

Hopefully this holiday would give me a timely break before the SPM result will be announce on the 28th February. I need mental and physical preparation before the result are presented in
front of my very own eyes..
